SIBU, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) is stepping up initiatives to raise incomes, create economic opportunities and reduce poverty in central Sarawak, said its chairman Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
Aaron, who is National Unity Minister and Kanowit Member of Parliament, said MiRRDA would prioritise projects that deliver direct socioeconomic benefits to local communities.
“Every project planned must add value to the community, create economic opportunities and improve the people’s quality of life,” he said in a statement after chairing the MiRRDA Steering Committee Meeting today.
Among the projects discussed was the proposed renovation and upgrading of St Francis Xavier’s Church in Kanowit, which includes tripling its capacity, improving its landscape and architecture, and providing additional parking spaces.
Aaron said MiRRDA would also strengthen its Entrepreneur Scaling Programme, focusing on business management, digital skills, product development and business expansion.
Human capital development in agriculture and livestock farming will also be enhanced, targeting oil palm smallholders and liberica coffee growers as well as providing training in livestock management and animal husbandry.
