KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Council (NSC) is strengthening its para athlete talent identification at the state level by supplying training equipment to selected State Sports Councils for their training centres.
In a statement today, NSC said it had delivered 13 custom full-set bench press units to 13 states by late August, worth RM520,000.
To encourage participation in boccia, NSC supplied ball sets to 11 states with an allocation of RM30,000. The agency will also provide additional sets to other states with many interested athletes.
Additionally, NSC provides financial support to help State Sports Councils appoint coaches and para-sports mobilisers to carry out their duties more systematically.
"The empowerment of equipment, a broader talent search system, and the consistent involvement of coaches and mobilisers will create a continuous network to ensure a steady pipeline of national para athletes," the statement read.
Meanwhile, NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin said the initiative aims to build a complete training ecosystem through close collaboration with State Sports Councils. This allows para talents to be identified and developed from an early stage to high performance.
"This includes joint efforts to expand the search for para athletes so they can be identified earlier and provided the opportunity to train consistently in their respective states before progressing to higher levels," he said.
