NAGOYA, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games is facing a minor communication gap related to transport coordination.
Chef de Mission (CDM) Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the issues, which also involved accommodation, are common at major sporting events, but the situation is under control and being resolved.
"There is just a slight problem, a communication breakdown, possibly with the HO (Head of Delegation) and so on," he told Bernama after the contingent's arrival ceremony at the athletes' village, Port of Nagoya today.
He said athletes from 14 sports have arrived in Japan so far, and the Malaysian contingent's preparations are running smoothly.
On a separate note, he said food-related issues have not posed a problem, with no complaints received from Malaysian athletes so far.
He described cooperation between the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee and the National Olympic Committee as good, which has helped resolve several issues promptly.
"Several countries are also facing the same problems with accommodation and transport, but we were able to resolve them quickly. A few minor issues are still being resolved," he said.
He also expressed hope that the remaining operational issues would not affect the focus or performance of Malaysian athletes throughout the Games.
On the hot weather, he said the situation had been anticipated and has not posed a problem for athletes so far.
However, a greater concern is the heavy downpours and minor flooding in several areas over the past few days.
"As of today, this weather is not a problem for our athletes. So far, I don't think it has disrupted their preparations," he said.
