WASHINGTON, Sept 18 (Bernama-dpa) -- The White House on Thursday withdrew US President Donald Trump's nomination of Richard "Lance" Schroyer to lead US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), German news agency dpa reported.
Trump had announced Schroyer as his nominee in June and urged the Senate to confirm him. Schroyer is a former Oklahoma state trooper and former US Marine.
The White House gave no reason for withdrawing the nomination.
The post became vacant after acting ICE director Todd Lyons announced months ago that he would step down.
ICE became a symbol of Trump's aggressive immigration policy during his second term, which began in January 2025.
The agency has carried out controversial immigration raids in Democrat-led cities, with some officers wearing masks to conceal their identities. The operations sparked widespread protests across the US.
Public backlash intensified after two US citizens were fatally shot by federal officers from multiple agencies during one of the operations in Minneapolis in January.
