17/09/2026 10:17 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The runway at Kota Kinabalu International Airport remains temporarily closed to allow essential works to be completed safely, as continuous rainfall has affected the progress of the works

Malaysia Airports said the temporary closure had affected 20 flights today and that it was working closely with the airlines to manage the operational impact and support affected passengers.

“Safety remains our highest priority and flight operations will resume only when the runway is confirmed safe for use.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding,” it said in a statement.

Passengers have also been advised to check their latest flight status directly with their respective airlines.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued thunderstorm warnings for several areas in Sabah, including Sandakan, Tawau, the interior, West Coast (Ranau and Papar), and Labuan until 11 pm today.
