Suahasil Nazara Appointed Indonesia's New Finance Minister In Cabinet Reshuffle

JAKARTA, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara was appointed Indonesia's new Finance Minister on Monday, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa in a Cabinet reshuffle.

Suahasil, who had served as Deputy Finance Minister since 2019, was appointed for the remainder of the Red and White Cabinet's 2024-2029 term.

He took the oath of office administered by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta before both signed the official record of the inauguration.

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Suahasil said he was informed of the appointment on Monday morning and was asked to prepare for the swearing-in that afternoon.

“This is a form of trust from the President and the Republic of Indonesia in me, and I express my gratitude for that trust. I hope I can carry out the mandate given by the President,” he said.

Suahasil is the third Finance Minister under Prabowo's administration, after Purbaya was appointed on Sept 8, 2025, to replace Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

On his priorities, the minister said Prabowo had instructed him to safeguard the health and credibility of state finances, while ensuring that the state budget supports the government's priority programmes.

“The priority is to implement a credible state budget. So I will continue to implement a state budget that can be trusted, credible public communication, and also ensure that what is done through the state budget supports the government's priority programmes,” he said.

Suahasil described his appointment as a continuation rather than a change, having already served as Deputy Finance Minister throughout Prabowo's administration. He said the transition from Purbaya would be properly coordinated.
