Kedah DPMM Strengthens Regional Networking Via IMT-GT Event

ALOR SETAR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) Kedah chapter is strengthening its business networking and exploring new global markets through the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Business Matching 2026 session held in Medan, Indonesia, last week.

Kedah DPMM president Zuhaizar Abdul Karim said the event, held in conjunction with the 32nd IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting, provided an opportunity to identify potential trade and investment opportunities with industry players, entrepreneurs, investors, financial institutions and chambers of commerce from IMT-GT member countries as well as international strategic partners.

“The programme, held on Sept 8, brought together more than 250 organisations and business entities from the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand region and several other countries. Kedah DPMM was represented by 19 delegates comprising entrepreneurs from various sectors.

“This participation reflects Kedah DPMM’s commitment to enabling entrepreneurs from the state to explore business opportunities beyond the domestic market while strategic networking at the regional level,” he said in a statement today.

Zuhaizar said Kedah DPMM sees the IMT-GT event as more than just an avenue for meetings and networking, but also as a catalyst for establishing sustainable and results-oriented business relationships.

“This approach is important to ensure that the networks established can lead to further discussions, business matching, strategic collaborations and new market opportunities,” he said.

Zuhaizar said that in line with the changing global trade landscape, Kedah DPMM is of the view that local entrepreneurs need to be more proactive in building their networks, identifying new markets and building strategic partnerships overseas.

IMT-GT is a subregional cooperation platform involving Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, with a focus on strengthening trade, investment, economic ties and private-sector cooperation in Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand.

“Participation in IMT-GT is among the efforts to provide Kedah entrepreneurs with greater exposure and access to regional markets.

“Kedah DPMM believes that the networks established can serve as a foundation for stronger business collaborations, while creating opportunities for Kedah entrepreneurs to enhance their competitiveness, grow their markets and expand internationally,” he said.

According to him, a key component of the programme was the sectoral group discussions, which allowed participants to exchange views, identify areas of cooperation and explore potential business opportunities.
