PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The Public Service Department (PSD) is reviewing initiatives to improve the income of civil servants in the country, said Director-General of Public Service (PSDG) Tan Sri Dr Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
He said the current salaries of civil servants do not fall below the poverty line, and they are advised to plan their spending wisely.
“In my view, civil servants earning their current salaries are not below the poverty line; it is simply a matter of how the civil servants themselves manage their expenses.
“At the same time, we are also examining any measures that could provide for or further improve civil servants' income,” he told reporters after officiating the Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference 2026 here today.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan noted that salary adjustments for civil servants have already been implemented through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), and any new initiatives are subject to the country's financial capacity.
The SSPA, which came into effect on Dec 1, 2024, is a major government initiative replacing the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM).
It was introduced as a civil service reform to boost staff motivation through a more competitive salary structure and a fairer, more transparent performance assessment process.
