KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on the National Consultative Secretariat to make the eight initiatives under the Blue Malaysia Agenda the focus of a workshop and retreat to be held in Melaka.
Ahmad Zahid, who outlined the agenda, said the aim was to produce a more comprehensive and practical Blue Malaysia Agenda blueprint with clear targets.
"My suggestion is that the Blue Malaysia Agenda must not stop at being an idea; it must be translated into policies, actions and outcomes, and must be grounded and people-oriented.
"Let us make it a pledge in Barisan Nasional's official manifesto for the next general election," he said when delivering his winding-up speech at the 2026 UMNO General Assembly (PAU 2026) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here today.
Also present were UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, vice-presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
In his policy speech at PAU 2026 yesterday, Ahmad Zahid said UMNO and BN would outline the Blue Malaysia Agenda to chart the country's direction towards the centenary of independence if the coalition returns to lead Putrajaya.
The agenda aims to build a Malaysia that is Sovereign and United, Innovative and High-Income, Prosperous and Equitable for its People, as well as Outstanding and Respected Globally.
Among the initiatives is to transform Malaysia into a nation of creators, with targets for high-technology companies and global-standard industries to be created, designed and owned by Malaysians.
The Blue Malaysia Agenda also seeks to make Malaysia a prosperous nation by changing how economic success is measured, including setting a target for every family to have at least 30 per cent disposable income after meeting basic needs for saving, investing and enjoying life.
It will also restructure national priorities, including tax restructuring involving the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at a reasonable rate.
