Penang 2030: Eight Of 10 Key Targets Achieved, Or On Track - Chow

12/09/2026 06:33 PM

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Eight of the 10 key targets under Penang2030 have either been achieved or are on track to be achieved, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He said the progress covered various sectors, including welfare and housing assistance, local governance reform, tourism, education, agriculture, entrepreneurship and youth development.

“As of my last public report, about eight out of 10 key Penang2030 targets have either been achieved or are actively progressing.

“Implementation progress for Penang2030 can be monitored publicly through the Penang2030 Dashboard, which has been operational since June 2022, allowing residents and politicians, including those from the opposition, to check the state government’s achievements at any time,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Penang State Government’s Eight-Year Report Card here today.

Chow said each strategic initiative listed on the dashboard had a designated State Executive Councillor (Exco) and officer responsible for overseeing its implementation and reporting on its progress.

He acknowledged that the agricultural sector still required improvement, noting that although Penang currently had 384 urban farms, agricultural productivity had yet to meet the state’s targets.

He said the state government aimed to expand the adoption of technologies such as smart farming, precision farming and vertical farming by leveraging the expertise of Penang’s electrical and electronics (E&E) industry and engineering talent.

Chow said the performance report was not intended merely to celebrate achievements, but also to provide an opportunity for the state government to reassess its current position and chart its future direction more accurately.

He noted that several major state infrastructure projects were expected to extend beyond 2030, giving his successor the opportunity to determine whether existing programmes should be continued or replaced with new priorities.

Meanwhile, Chow said he had directed all Exco members to identify Penang2030 initiatives under their respective portfolios that had yet to commence or remained incomplete.

He said the directive was issued several weeks ago and that he was personally monitoring progress on the outstanding initiatives.

“I also want to hand over the administration of Penang in good shape to my successor,” he said.
