PLUS, Related Agencies Monitor Landslide At Km263.6 North-South Expressway

IPOH, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) along with related agencies are still at Kilometre (KM) 263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound to monitor the condition of the area and traffic flow following a landslide incident earlier this afternoon.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said that PLUS is also obtaining an assessment from experts regarding the hill slope conditions in the area to ensure the safety of the route before further action is determined.

"No loss of life, injuries, or property damage have been reported following the incident.

"The cleanup works have been completed and all lanes were reopened to highway users at 7 pm," he said in a statement tonight.

He also advised all users of the North-South Expressway, especially those passing through the Menora Tunnel area and nearby hilly routes, to always be cautious, adhere to instructions and safety signs, and reduce speed, especially during bad weather.

Meanwhile, Mohd Alwi said the landslide incident occurred about two kilometres after the Menora Tunnel this afternoon.

"The incident that occurred around 4.30 pm involved the left lane of the highway while the area was experiencing heavy rain.

"Following the incident, the left lane has been temporarily closed to allow for cleanup works to be carried out, while traffic has been diverted to the right lane," he said.

He said road users are advised to obtain the latest traffic information through the official channels of the authorities and highway operators before starting their journey.

Previously, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) reported that a landslide at KM263.6 of the North-South Expressway southbound from the Menora Tunnel to Ipoh had caused a traffic jam stretching 15km.

Through a post on platform X, LLM reported that the congestion was initially reported to be four kilometres long before increasing due to cleanup works at the location.
