SINGAPORE, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Singapore continues to face a high terrorism threat, with online platforms fuelling radicalisation, especially among youths, according to the Internal Security Department (ISD).
In its Terrorism Threat Assessment Report 2026 released on Thursday, ISD said Singapore remained an attractive target for terrorist elements, with ongoing conflicts in West Asia adding to security concerns.
The report also highlighted that far-right and nihilistic violent extremist narratives were gaining traction and had featured in several recent attacks.
According to ISD, eight Singaporeans have been detained or issued Restriction Orders under the Internal Security Act (ISA) since July 2025.
They comprised one individual who was politically motivated to take up arms for Turkiye against Greece and seven who were self-radicalised by a range of extremist influences.
The report noted that online games and social media had accelerated radicalisation, especially among youths, through exposure to violent extremist content.
"Online games may also allow for the simulation of terrorist attacks and mass shootings. Violent fantasies may develop into a desire to enact real-world violence over time," it warned.
