KUANTAN, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The Pahang Health Department (Pahang JKN), via the Maran District Health Office, is conducting further investigations to identify factors related to the death of a participant in the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) 2026 in Maran on Saturday.

In a statement today, Pahang JKN said the investigation covers an assessment of environmental aspects, implementation of the activity, weather conditions, and other relevant factors.

“We welcome the organiser’s decision to suspend related activities following the incident as a precautionary measure while the investigation is underway,” it said.

On Sept 4, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) student Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal, 21, died after collapsing while taking part in the KKEC 2026 endurance event at UiTM Jengka campus in Pahang.

Eight other participants were reported to have received treatment and medical observation at two separate hospitals following heat-related incidents during the event.

At the same time, Pahang JKN advised organisers of endurance and outdoor physical activities to conduct risk assessments before and throughout activities, particularly by taking into account heat-related risks and prevailing weather conditions.

“Organisers must also ensure that drinking water is readily available at suitable locations and provide adequate rest periods, especially during hot weather or high-intensity activities,” it said.

Pahang JKN said organisers must also ensure participants are monitored through the buddy system and checkpoints, in addition to ensuring the readiness of emergency medical teams and ambulances, as well as having clear emergency response and evacuation plans.

“Pahang JKN will continue to monitor developments and take appropriate action based on the findings of the ongoing investigation,” it said.
