PUTRAJAYA, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, today graced the National Audit Department’s (JAN) 120th anniversary celebration here.

His Majesty arrived at noon and was received by Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.

Throughout its 120-year history, JAN, established in 1906, has continued to discharge its mandate as the country’s supreme audit institution, ensuring public financial management is carried out transparently, with integrity and accountability, in line with the principles of good governance.

The event also saw His Majesty signing JAN’s 120th anniversary plaque, symbolising the department’s 120-year legacy and the continuation of its institutional mandate to strengthen accountability and the country’s public financial governance.

Earlier, in her address expressing gratitude to His Majesty, Wan Suraya said JAN served as the nation’s check-and-balance mechanism in ensuring that every sen of public funds is managed responsibly, and with the consent of His Majesty, the Auditor General’s Report (LKAN) is tabled in Parliament twice a year.

“Every year, the LKAN reports on the Federal government’s and agencies’ financial statements, the activities of ministries, departments and federal statutory bodies, the management of federal companies, the activities of ministries, departments and state statutory bodies, as well as the management of state companies.

“In conjunction with JAN’s 120th anniversary celebration, we have also implemented the JAN Service Digitalisation Project to strengthen auditing by harnessing the capabilities of data analytics, big data and artificial intelligence, thereby supporting more comprehensive, faster and responsive audits,” she said.

Wan Suraya said this would also transform the public sector auditing landscape into a more data-driven, transparent system that operates in real time.

She said JAN would also continue to undertake more high-impact audits to ensure that every policy and expenditure of public funds genuinely created value for the people and the country.

The theme of the 120th anniversary celebration, ‘Menjunjung Amanah: Audit Berkualiti, Meningkatkan Akauntabiliti’ (Upholding the Trust: Quality Audits, Enhancing Accountability), reflects JAN’s continued commitment to strengthening the institution’s credibility and ensuring that its auditing function remains relevant in supporting public sector governance with integrity and accountability.

Throughout the anniversary year, various programmes have been held to commemorate JAN’s contributions to the country, including the launch of JAN’s 120th anniversary celebration, JAN’s 120th Anniversary Run (Audit Run), a special Friday prayer khutbah at selected mosques nationwide, and the 2026 Auditor General’s Cup Debate Competition.

Also present were Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, and Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim left the ceremony at 1 pm.
