SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 (Bernama) - Sabah made a strong start to their Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA) Selangor 2026 campaign, finishing day two at the top of the medal table with six gold, six silver, and five bronze medals as of 10 pm.
Sabah collected five gold medals in para athletics, with the sixth coming from Mohd Nazizul Hamzah, who won the men's singles Class 6-7 para table tennis event.
Eljoe Gotuoh secured his third consecutive gold in the men's long jump T20 with a leap of 7.06 metres. Muhamad Shaban Shahid Shaban Shah marked his Para SUKMA debut by winning the men's 100m T45 in 13.21 seconds.
Mohamad Syahzwan William took gold in the men's shot put F20 with a throw of 14.44m. Mohamad Faqrul Nizam claimed the men's shot put F33 title with a distance of 6.01m.
Charmian Sikajat won gold in the women's shot put F20 with a throw of 11.50m, setting a new tournament record.
Terengganu picked up their first gold in powerlifting as Muhammad Shazmin Syamsuar won the men's under-59kg category with lifts of 120kg, 130kg, and 136kg.
Rafli Suhaili of Labuan took silver with a lift of 110kg, and Johor's Muhammad Bukhari Md Zan earned bronze with 101kg.
Host Selangor claimed three wins in para badminton, with Ahmad Najmi Aminudin taking the men's singles SH6, Muhammad Faiz Asri winning the men's singles SL3, and Muhammad Huzairi and Yashaiful Yayah securing the men's doubles SL3-SU5.
Day two Sukma proceedings were disrupted when haze forced the suspension of para athletics, para swimming, para archery, and lawn bowls.
The Air Pollutant Index in Shah Alam and Klang hit 169 at noon, prompting organisers to suspend events on the advice of the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the Selangor State Health Department, and the special technical committee.
Day three tomorrow is set to see key events return, with para athletics, para swimming, and para powerlifting resuming, while para badminton, para archery, para table tennis, and lawn bowls continue.
