1,225 PPKK Members Appointed For 2024-2026 Term – Nancy

KUCHING, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,225 members of the Child Protection Team (PPKK) have been appointed for the 2024-2026 term to strengthen child protection efforts nationwide, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said 141 PPKKs were appointed by the National Council for Children (MKBKK), in accordance with Section 7(1) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).

"The PPKK plays a role in helping to coordinate services for children and families, as well as connecting the community with relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure every child grows up in a safe, protected and prosperous environment," she said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 National PPKK Symposium here tonight, Nancy said a total of 10,904 children were recorded as being in need of care and protection last year, while 2,746 cases were recorded from January to March this year.

She said the statistics demonstrated that efforts to strengthen the child protection system must be implemented in an integrated and continuous manner, with the involvement of all parties, including the community.

Meanwhile, she said that to ensure the PPKK and Child Activity Centres (PAKK) could carry out their roles effectively, her ministry, through the Social Welfare Department (JKM), had allocated RM705,000 this year for PPKK programmes and activities.

"About RM3.5 million was also allocated for the management and operation of PAKKs nationwide, including RM365,000 for 14 PPKKs in Sarawak, as well as RM435,340 for the operation of 14 existing PAKKs and one new state PAKK," she said.
