KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- An inter-agency meeting was held in Labuan today to assess public health and safety risks, including potential impacts on schools, as Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in the federal territory hovered between 150 and 170 over the past 24 hours.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE) in a Facebook post, the discussion focused on coordinating immediate and follow-up actions among relevant agencies in response to the haze situation.
Key items on the agenda included reporting current air quality status, establishing public communication and announcement plans, and coordinating enforcement actions should air pollution levels deteriorate further.
The meeting, held at 9 am at the Labuan Civil Defence Force (APM) District Operations Control Centre, was chaired by Labuan District Police Chief Supt Wan Firdaus Wan Zaki, representing the Labuan Corporation chief executive officer.
It was attended by representatives from DOE, APM, the Labuan Federal Territory Education Department and other related agencies.
DOE noted that the inter-agency collaboration reflects the government's continued commitment and readiness in risk management to safeguard the health and well-being of Labuan residents.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Labuan's API readings over the 24-hour period remained within the unhealthy range of 150 to 170.
