JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 6 (Bernama) — The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, was today crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament (JSCPT) 2026 for his outstanding performance throughout the prestigious competition.
The tournament trophy, medals and MVP award were presented by Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor at the prize-giving ceremony held immediately after the final at the Royal Polo Field, Istana Pasir Pelangi, here.
The individual recognition capped an impressive performance by Tunku Mahkota Ismail, who led Royal Johor to the title after defeating Temasek 10-7, with his double hat-trick in the final.
His achievement in securing the top individual award was remarkable as he had to compete while still hampered by a hand injury.
Korea Polo Club finished third in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
The closing ceremony, which was also attended by Royal Johor Polo Club secretary David Keyte, saw Tunku Mahkota Ismail’s horse, named Poliya Cara Pálida, crowned Best Playing Pony, completing his and Royal Johor’s outright dominance in this edition.
The final was also witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, as well as state government leaders and other distinguished guests.
The 22-goal tournament, held from Sept 1 to 6, is the highest-handicap polo competition to have been organised in Malaysia to date.
The tournament was driven by a shared vision between Tunku Mahkota Ismail and world polo star Polito Pieres to position Johor as one of the premier destinations on the international polo circuit.
