Budget 2027: KBS To Focus On Grassroots Sports Development, Athlete Welfare

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has submitted an initial framework of its Budget 2027 proposals to the Finance Ministry (MOF) for consideration, with grassroots sports development, youth participation and athletes’ welfare among the ministry’s priorities.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the framework was prepared based on input gathered through the MADANI Youth Budget Tour being conducted in six zones nationwide.

“Although all the tour sessions have not been completed, KBS has obtained various views from youth organisations, sports associations as well as unorganised youths for review and assessment.

“So far, we have held initial discussions with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and have submitted the initial framework for MOF’s assessment,” he told reporters after attending the Oregeon Tower Run Series flag off at The TOP Atrium, here today.

The ministry wants to provide more space and opportunities for the public to participate in sports activities, particularly at the grassroots level to produce more reserve athletes and will focus on athletes’ welfare, including those who have retired or had previously contributed to the country, he added.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq said his ministry also takes into account the views of sports associations and youth organisations as well as the needs of youths in rural areas and those who have not previously participated in any ministry organisations or programmes.

He also shared that his ministry intends to hold various nationwide tour programmes in 2027 to reach as many youths as possible, including through large-scale activities and smaller programmes at the community level.

“We want to implement programmes touring throughout Malaysia next year to meet as many young people as possible by carrying out mass activities as well as small-scale activities so that we can engage with every young person,” he said.
