Komuniti MADANI Must Strengthen Role As Bridge Between Government And People - Wan Azizah

06/09/2026 04:07 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail called for the Komuniti MADANI initiative to play a greater role as a bridge between the government and the people.

She said this role is crucial to ensure that every government policy and initiative reaches its intended targets, while also effectively channelling public feedback to the relevant agencies for further action.

"Do not merely be information transmitters; be attentive listeners to the issues affecting the elderly, families in distress and the needs of the youth," she said at the Komuniti MADANI appointment certificate ceremony for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency here today.

Also present were the Prime Minister's political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territories Information Department director Normaizatulakmal Tujad, and Bandar Tun Razak Komuniti MADANI chairman Jonathan Vela.

The Prime Minister's wife said that as the government's eyes and ears, community members must be proactive in following up on issues faced by the public.

She said that while Komuniti MADANI may not be able to resolve every issue raised, the network must ensure that each concern reaches those with the authority and responsibility to act.

Meanwhile, she said the initiative must also serve as a frontline defence against the spread of false information, particularly in the age of social media.

"Misinformation spreads rapidly and can disrupt harmony. Komuniti MADANI must be the first line of defence against falsehoods, adhering to the principle: ‘Check before sharing’.

“We may have differing views, but we must always maintain mutual respect," she said.

She also emphasised that the true strength of any community lies in the relationships between neighbours and the willingness of people of diverse races and backgrounds to help and support one another.

In this regard, Dr Wan Azizah said the appointees must uphold trust and integrity, proactively engage with the community, and listen closely to the people’s concerns.

At the ceremony, Dr Wan Azizah also presented the Komuniti MADANI Ambassador Award to Azizi Anas and S. Yugan, as well as appointment certificates to representatives from six sub-zones within Bandar Tun Razak.

Komuniti MADANI is a rebranding of the 1,878 Komuniti Keluarga Malaysia groups, following the launch of the Malaysia MADANI framework on Jan 19, 2023.

In the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, 72 Komuniti MADANI groups have been established, and the network's strength depends on volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to serving the community.
