Teo Urges MPKu To Repair Damaged Kulai Futsal Court

KULAI, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Kulai Member of Parliament Teo Nie Ching has urged the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) to take immediate action to repair the damaged futsal court in Taman Desa Kulai, which deteriorated less than two years after its completion in December 2024.

She said the facility's condition raised questions about construction quality and posed safety risks to children and youths who continued to use it.

“I am baffled because in less than 18 months, the quality has deteriorated to this state. Is this reasonable quality?

“Therefore, I hope MPKu takes action as soon as possible so that children and youths using this facility do not get injured,” she told reporters after inspecting the court here today.

Teo said the futsal court was built under an MPKu project executed alongside a carpark project in Taman Mewah Kulai at a total cost of RM696,702, with the futsal court accounting for about RM400,000.

Teo, who is also Deputy Communications Minister, requested MPKu to clarify whether the Defect Liability Period (DLP) for the contractor was still in force.

“If the DLP has expired, we may not be able to ask the contractor to carry out repairs, but the question remains whether it is reasonable for a RM400,000 project that is less than two years old to be in such a state,” she said.

Meanwhile, Taman Desa Kulai Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) chairman Chan You You said damage to the court's surface began appearing about six months after completion and progressively worsened.

He said the issues included holes, cracks, and accumulated sand that made the surface slippery.

“Six months after completion, small holes and cracks started appearing. Over time, they multiplied, and now it has gotten much worse,” he said.

Chan noted that complaints regarding the facility's condition were submitted to the relevant authorities in February, but no response or comprehensive repair plan had been provided.

He added that residents frequently complained about the court and hoped for immediate comprehensive repairs, as well as improved lighting in the area for user safety.
