KUANTAN, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is continuing to strengthen its role as a strategic partner of the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme (MELP) by bringing energy education and awareness to rural communities.
In a statement today, TNB said this commitment was reflected through the 'MELP With Mukim Cheka 1 Community' programme in Kuala Lipis today, which brought together about 600 residents.
It said the initiative provided a platform for locals to enhance their knowledge on energy management, promote efficient and safe electricity usage, and foster two-way engagement between TNB and the community.
Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, in the same statement, said energy literacy was a crucial foundation for shaping a society capable of making smarter energy choices and supporting the national energy transition agenda.
Abdul Rahman, who is also the National MELP Steering Committee chairman, said energy transition could not rely solely on policies, technology, and investments.
“Therefore, programmes like MELP must reach the grassroots level, including rural communities, so they understand changes in the energy landscape and know how to play their role,” he said.
The three main learning areas highlighted in this edition of MELP were understanding electricity bills and the myTNB app, energy saving and efficiency, and electrical safety.
The programme also involved about 100 primary school pupils in a sustainable energy-themed colouring contest, alongside sharing sessions and community interaction.
TNB also presented RM75,000 in corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions to schools, mosques, surau, and welfare organisations in Mukim Cheka 1.
