Moderate Haze Observed Singapore, Southern Malaysia And Northern Borneo - ASMC

SINGAPORE, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Moderate smoke haze was observed over Singapore, southern Peninsular Malaysia, as well as northern Borneo on Saturday, according to the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC).

In its daily weather and haze outlook, it said moderate to dense smoke plumes were also detected emanating from hotspot clusters across many parts of Kalimantan and the central and southern Sumatra.  

"Scattered hotspots to widespread hotspots were detected in Kalimantan and Sumatra, while few hotspots were detected elsewhere in the southern ASEAN region.

"Many air quality stations in Borneo are reporting unhealthy to hazardous levels, while several air quality stations in Sumatra, Singapore and southern Peninsular Malaysia are reporting unhealthy levels," it said on Saturday.

According to Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA) data, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in the Central area remained at an unhealthy level of 114 as at 11 am on Saturday.

Air quality in the other regions remained at the upper end of the moderate range, with the East recording a PSI of 94, the West (96), the North (82), and the South (86).
