05/09/2026 10:40 AM

TOKYO, Sept 5 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Japan's weather agency on Saturday issued its highest landslide warning for Yakushima Island in the southwestern Japanese prefecture of Kagoshima, calling for maximum vigilance in the morning amid heavy rain, Kyodo News reported.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said it was likely that a disaster had occurred in some form, as the Level 5 emergency warning was issued.

Due to Typhoon Krovanh and a weather front, low-lying areas in western Japan may see flooding, while rivers may swell or overflow.

Up to 200 millimetres of rain may fall in southern Kyushu, including Kagoshima, over the 24 hours through 6 am Sunday, according to the agency.
