KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Think tanks from across BRICS have called for deeper cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), quantum technologies and digital infrastructure as rapid technological transformation reshapes economies and raises new governance and security challenges.
According to TV BRICS, experts participating in the 18th BRICS Academic Forum held recently in Lucknow, India, also highlighted the growing importance of member countries strengthening resilience across economic, social, health and climate systems, as well as promoting sustainable development, as the grouping enters its next phase.
The forum, held in conjunction with India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” brought together speakers from academic institutions, research and international organisations.
The forum took place as BRICS marked two decades of cooperation, providing an opportunity to assess the grouping’s development and consider priorities for its next phase.
“The forum also addressed policy challenges linked to technological transformation, including skills development, digital security and responsible technology governance.
“Education, culture and people-to-people exchanges were highlighted as important tools for building trust and supporting long-term cooperation among BRICS countries,” TV BRICS reported.
“Global governance reform was another key area of discussion. Participants considered proposals to reform global financial, trade and multilateral institutions, as well as the evolving role of BRICS institutions, including the New Development Bank,” it added.
The BRICS Think Tanks Council recommendations were formally presented to representatives of India’s External Affairs Ministry.
