SINGAPORE, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Singapore’s air quality slipped into the unhealthy range on Friday for the first time in nearly three years, with the Haze Task Force (HTF) activating its action plans amid deteriorating conditions.
The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) entered the unhealthy range at 7 am Friday, its first unhealthy reading since Oct 8, 2023.
At 3 pm, the PSI in the central region climbed to 108, while readings elsewhere remained in the moderate range: East (92), West (90), North (80) and South (77), according to National Environment Agency (NEA) data.
In response to the deteriorating air quality, the NEA said it would begin issuing daily haze advisories from Friday evening, including a 24-hour PSI forecast.
"This can be used by the public in planning their activities and events for the next 24 hours," it said in a statement on Friday.
Comprising representatives from 28 government agencies, the HTF coordinates the government’s efforts to closely monitor the situation and minimise the impact of the haze on the public.
"HTF agencies will provide further advisories should the haze situation deteriorate," it said.
