KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Curia Global Inc (Curia) has opened its expanded campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following a US$200 million investment to increase domestic manufacturing capacity for critical injectable medicines. (US$1=RM4.03)

The expansion adds 70,000 square feet to the facility’s existing 200,000-square-foot manufacturing footprint, housing two new isolated filling lines, including a flexible line for syringes, cartridges and vials and a high-speed vial line capable of handling 1,000-litre batches and filling up to 400 vials per minute.

Curia chief executive officer, Philip Macnabb said the expansion positions the company to meet growing demand for reliable domestic manufacturing capacity for critical injectable vaccines and medicines, adding that the facility combines increased capacity and advanced technology with a 40-year history in sterile drug product manufacturing.

The expanded campus specialises in aseptic fill-finish and lyophilisation services, complemented by automated visual inspection and packaging technologies. Its capabilities are supported by Sterile University, a sterile manufacturing training programme.

The project was supported through a cooperative agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, in coordination with the Department of War’s Capability Program Executive for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense.

In a statement, the company said the State of New Mexico also supported the expansion through assistance from the Local Economic Development Act job creation fund.

The expansion strengthens Curia’s global network of sterile fill-finish facilities providing clinical and commercial manufacturing services for critical medicines and public health needs.

Curia is a contract research, development and manufacturing organisation with more than 20 global sites and over 3,000 employees, providing services spanning discovery, development and manufacturing for biopharmaceutical customers. Founded in 1991 as Albany Molecular Research Inc (AMRI), the company has expanded its capabilities and global footprint through strategic acquisitions.
