HYDERABAD, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar have pledged to intensify coordination to strengthen the 57-member bloc’s global role amid regional peace and security challenges.
The two discussed the matter during a phone call on Thursday, during which Dar congratulated Ismail on his election by consensus on Aug 27 and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the OIC.
Ismail also welcomed the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, describing it as significant for regional peace and security, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The OIC said the two sides discussed ways to “intensify bilateral coordination” to strengthen the organisation’s global role, preparations for the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, and the latest political and security developments in the region.
They also exchanged views on challenges to regional peace and security, stressing the need for continued dialogue and cooperation amid what the OIC described as a “critical phase” for the region.
