Singapore’s Central Region Air Quality Reaches Unhealthy Levels

SINGAPORE, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Air quality in parts of Singapore deteriorated to unhealthy levels on Friday morning, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in the Central region rising above the 100 mark, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

At 9 am, the 24-hour PSI across the republic ranged from 75 to 104, with the Central region recording the highest reading of 104 after breaching the 100 mark at 7 am.

Air quality in the other regions remained in the moderate range, with the East recording a PSI of 89, the West (88), the North (78), and the South (75).

The 24-hour PSI indicates Singapore's daily air quality and forms the basis of the NEA's daily health advisories. It is computed based on six air pollutants: PM2.5, PM10, ozone, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide.

According to the NEA weather outlook, dry conditions are forecast over many parts of the southern ASEAN region over the next few days.

The prevailing winds over the southern ASEAN region are expected to blow from the southeast to the southwest, it said.
