KOTA BHARU, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has been urged to continue strengthening teachers’ competencies, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), digital skills and innovation, to meet the increasingly complex challenges facing education.
Public Service Department (PSD) deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Mohd Shaiful Ibrahim said the effort is important in line with the Public Service Reform Agenda, which emphasises strengthening the competencies of civil servants, including educators.
He said developments in digital technology and AI, along with changes in the global economic landscape, require the education system to remain responsive to change.
“This requires teachers to be prepared to respond to change and adapt to new approaches to teaching and learning,” he said at the opening of the 24th NUTP Triennial Delegates Conference here tonight.
Mohd Shaiful said teachers must be given opportunities to strengthen their competencies, particularly in AI, digital skills, and innovation, to meet the increasingly complex demands of the education sector.
He said the welfare and well-being of teachers should also be taken into account as efforts are made to enhance their competencies, performance and excellence.
Mohd Shaiful said cooperation among NUTP, the PSD and the Education Ministry is important for strengthening teachers’ competencies and maintaining educators’ welfare and well-being, as part of efforts to support the country’s educational development.
