KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Oil and gas (O&G) services provider EPIC Bhd’s subsidiary Konsortium Pelabuhan Kemaman Sdn Bhd (KPKSB) has been awarded a contract for the provision of two tug vessels with a bollard pull capacity of 50 to 60 tonnes to support Banang Field operations.

The contract was awarded by PETRA Energy Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary PETRA Energy Development Sdn Bhd.

In a statement today, EPIC said that under the contract, KPKSB will provide a primary tug as a standby vessel and a secondary tug as an offtake-assist vessel.

“The primary tug will be provided for an initial period of 934 days, with an option for two further extension periods of 365 days each, while the secondary tug will be provided for 100 days on a call-out basis, subject to the applicable terms and conditions of the contract,” it said.

EPIC’s group chief executive officer Dr Muhtar Suhaili said the collaboration will further strengthen  KPKSB’s role in supporting offshore operations, building on its marine operational experience to meet the evolving requirements of the energy industry.

“The contract award reflects the confidence in KPKSB’s ability to support the operational demands of the offshore industry. Through this collaboration, we will leverage our marine expertise and operational experience to provide efficient vessel support for Banang Field operations,” he said.

According to EPIC, KPKSB continues to expand its footprint in marine and offshore support services, while strengthening Kemaman’s position as a strategic maritime and offshore support hub on Malaysia’s East Coast, complementing Kemaman Port’s ongoing expansion plan.

“As offshore operations continue to evolve, dependable marine support remains critical to maintaining operational continuity. KPKSB is committed to delivering services that meet the required standards of safety, reliability and operational performance, while creating greater value for our clients,” Muhtar added.

The contract was awarded during a contract signing ceremony held at Oil and Gas Asia 2026 today, witnessed by Muhtar, alongside Terengganu Incorporated Sdn Bhd president and group chief executive officer, Datuk Haji Burhanuddin Hilmi Mohamed @ Harun and PETRA Energy deputy group chief executive officer Mohamad Subky Bustari.
