KPN Organises Merdeka Football Festival Exhibition Until Dec 31

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of National Unity (KPN) is organising the Pesta Bola Merdeka exhibition, which highlights football as a symbol of unity among Malaysians of various races, religions and cultures, from Aug 31 to Dec 31, 2026.

In a statement today, KPN said the four-month exhibition is being held at Gallery 1, Department of Museums Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, to highlight football as part of the nation's historical journey that has shaped the national spirit, unity and Malaysian identity.

"Through this exhibition, the history and development of football are showcased from before independence, its role during the era of the struggle for independence, up to its current status as the sport closest to the hearts of Malaysians.

"The public has the opportunity to reminisce about the historic moments that shaped the journey of the nation's football and to appreciate the contributions of key figures in developing national football in tandem with the struggle to achieve independence," it said.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said football was not merely a game, but also a medium that unites Malaysians across race, religion and background.

"Since before the country achieved independence, football has been a part of the community's pulse, cutting across race, religion and background," he said.

He said the sportsmanship built through football also reflected the spirit of struggle and love for the homeland, which became the foundation for the formation of an independent nation.

The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from 9 am to 5 pm, with the public welcome to visit and explore the exhibits highlighting the history, development and role of football in nation-building.
