Moderate 5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Detected In West Papua

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude was detected in West Papua, Indonesia, at 8.04 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement that the earthquake was centred at coordinates 3.4 degrees south and 139.6 degrees east, approximately 159 kilometres southwest of Jayapura.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 60 kilometres.

MetMalaysia said there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the quake.
