IPOH, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Pintas Utama Sdn Bhd has donated nearly RM200,000 worth of laptops to students from underprivileged families to enhance their access to digital learning.
The donation was channelled through the Program Kerjasama Wakalah at the Seminar Kecemerlangan SPM 2026 - Skim Biasiswa Pelajaran Baitulmal (SBBP) for the Central Zone, held here for students from underprivileged families.
Pintas Utama Chief Executive Officer Datuk Marhalim Mohamed said the contribution was part of the company’s efforts to nurture a knowledgeable and competitive generation by providing students with greater access to technology and digital learning.
“We believe that every student should be given equal access to quality education, as they have great potential to shape the country’s future.
“In today’s education landscape, laptops are no longer simply an additional facility but an essential learning tool that enables students to access learning materials, complete assignments and develop their digital skills,” he said in a statement issued in conjunction with the laptop handover ceremony.
Pintas Utama representatives handed over the 50 laptops in the presence of Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) chief operating officer Wan Maizura Wan Zahari and Pintas Utama Corporate Affairs Division general manager Rohizan Omar.
The contribution was a continuation of Pintas Utama’s initiative in Perak, which previously saw 30 laptops donated to students at a programme held at the Ritz Garden Hotel, Manjung, on Aug 26.
A day earlier, Pintas Utama distributed essential items and cash contributions to more than 80 asnaf at the Al-Ikhwan Mosque in Tanjong Malim, Perak, in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul and National Month celebrations.
The contribution reflects Pintas Utama’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of wakalah zakat reach those in need, while helping to ease the burden on families in providing adequate learning facilities for their children.
At the same time, Pintas Utama is involved in several infrastructure projects in Perak, particularly slope maintenance and repair works as well as sewerage system development.
Meanwhile, Marhalim said development should not be viewed solely from the infrastructure aspect, but should also go hand in hand with human capital development and community well-being.
“As a company involved in infrastructure projects in Perak, we view our responsibility towards the community as part of a more comprehensive development ecosystem. Good infrastructure must be supported by a community that has access to education, opportunities and a better quality of life,” he said.
He said Pintas Utama would therefore continue to play a role not only as a company with expertise in the construction sector, but also as a strategic partner in supporting socio-economic development and community well-being, in line with the aspirations of sustainable development in Perak and the country.
One of the recipients, Ayuni Natasha Muhammad Zamrud, 17, said the laptop would be particularly useful in helping her prepare for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
“The laptop is a great help because I can now submit my assignments to my teacher for review. I can also practise on my own and get feedback from my teacher to help me improve,” said the youngest of five siblings.
For Muhammad Fadzli Sharolmuni, 17, the donation was particularly meaningful as he had previously relied on the school computer lab or cybercafe to complete his Economics and Accounting coursework because he did not own a laptop.
The student, who has eight siblings, said his family’s financial circumstances had made it difficult to buy a laptop, particularly after his father passed away and his mother suffered a stroke, leaving his 27-year-old brother and 26-year-old sister to support the family.
