SERDANG, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- The Veterinary Services Department (DVS) today recognised 167 artificial insemination technicians nationwide in appreciation of their commitment to strengthening livestock breeding services at the field level.

Veterinary Services director-gneeral Datuk Dr Mohd Noor Hisham Mohd Haron said the recognition for the 2024 to 2026 period covered several categories, including the Golden Hands Award for DVS artificial insemination technicians and private artificial insemination technicians.

He said the award assessment also took into account artificial insemination service achievements, including the number of livestock receiving the service, the number of offspring born as a result of artificial insemination and the number of livestock becoming pregnant through artificial insemination.

“This award presentation is an important platform to appreciate the high commitment of artificial insemination technicians who are the frontliners in driving the genetic transformation of the country’s livestock,” he said in his speech at the Award and Appreciation Presentation Ceremony for Artificial Insemination Technicians and Livestock Farmers and the launch of the Artificial Insemination Management System (AIMS) here.

The ceremony, held at Laman Veterinar, MAEPS Serdang, also witnessed the launch of AIMS, a digital system developed by DVS to streamline the management of artificial insemination services in an integrated and real-time manner.

AIMS covers the management of premises and livestock data, frozen semen stock inventory, artificial insemination procedure records as well as information on pregnancy examinations and livestock births.

According to Mohd Noor Hisham, the use of the system will not only improve operational efficiency in the field, but also help strengthen the integrity of national data related to livestock breeding.

“More accurate and integrated data is important to support policy planning, the development of high-performance livestock breeds as well as efforts to strengthen the country’s food security,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ceremony also introduced the AIMS Digital Transformation Award 2026 and the Premier Award for Reproductive Technology Application (ART) 2026 in recognition of efforts to empower the use of technology in the livestock breeding industry.

The ceremony was officiated by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Isham Ishak and was also attended by DVS top management.
