JMF's Debut National Day Parade Appearance Brings Historic Legacy To National Stage

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- The Johor Military Force (JMF) made a historic debut at the 69th National Day parade today, bringing the legacy of one of the country's oldest security forces to the national stage.

JMF Contingent Platoon Commander Lieutenant Muhamad Nur Helmi Mohamed Amin said the participation gave Malaysians an opportunity to see the uniqueness and continued role of Johor's state military force up close.

"We are very proud to be able to bring the name of the JMF to the national level. The Johor Military Force is usually only seen in Johor, but this time, everyone has the opportunity to see the JMF."

"At the same time, we can demonstrate that the JMF remains relevant and is able to serve under the patronage of the Johor Royal Institution," he told Bernama.

The force's roles were highlighted through the variety of official uniforms displayed by the contingent during the parade, reflecting the JMF's identity, traditions and range of duties.

"For this year's parade, what we are trying to showcase is the functions of the JMF itself. During the parade, you can see the different uniforms we have displayed for duties at the palace, operations in urban areas and operations in the jungle."

"Not to be forgotten are the ceremonial uniforms, which are a source of great pride for the JMF," he said.

Muhamad Nur Helmi said the contingent comprised 102 officers and personnel, including four officers and 98 personnel of other ranks.

"The contingent for this parade consists of the band, marching contingent and personnel responsible for displaying the defence assets," he said.

The JMF also showcased several military assets to the public, including four motorcycles, two all-terrain vehicles, three Toyota Hilux vehicles and two locally manufactured Ribat tactical armoured vehicles produced by MILDEF.

Muhamad Nur Helmi said JMF carried out extensive internal preparations for about a month before travelling to the event venue.

Upon arriving in Putrajaya, the contingent intensified its training, with rehearsals conducted in the mornings and additional training sessions held in the afternoons.

He said the main challenges involved drill and logistical coordination, with repeated marching exercises conducted to ensure every movement was synchronised, orderly and precise.

On the logistical front, the contingent maintained continuous coordination and communication with the relevant authorities in Putrajaya to ensure its movements and participation proceeded smoothly.

The JMF was established in 1885 during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar, with the Johore Military Forces name officially adopted in 1904.

Today, the JMF serves as Johor's ceremonial force while providing support in palace administration, royal activities and aspects of state security.
