PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- Dataran Putrajaya came alive this morning as tens of thousands of visitors gathered for the 2026 National Day celebrations.
A Bernama check found that as early as 3.30 am, visitors of all ages were already braving the pre-dawn darkness and walking several kilometres from their parking spots to secure places near the main stage.
The spirit of independence was clearly reflected in the turnout, with parents bringing their young children in pushchairs and people with disabilities in wheelchairs also joining the celebrations.
To ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow amid the large crowds, police have been closely monitoring traffic along the main routes around Dataran Putrajaya since early this morning.
The favourable weather this morning added to the festive and patriotic mood as Malaysians gathered to celebrate National Day.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE)’s Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at the Putrajaya station stood at 79, indicating a moderate level.
Themed “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, the celebration is expected to draw about 80,000 visitors and will feature a line-up of performances to enhance the patriotic spirit among those at Dataran Putrajaya and viewers watching the event live on television.
