National Day: Early Birds Flock To Dataran Putrajaya For Prime Spots, Best Shots

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- Eager to witness the 69th National Day celebration up close, members of the public began gathering at Dataran Putrajaya as early as yesterday evening, with some camping overnight to secure prime viewing spots along the parade route.

For Mock Wei Qi, 23, and his friends, their shared passion for photography and cinematography brought them to the venue at 11 pm yesterday in search of the perfect spot to capture creative and cinematic footage showcasing Malaysia’s unique features.

“We are looking for the best spots to capture creative and cinematic views. We want to show the world how special our country is,” he told Bernama.

The freelance photographer said he saw the National Day celebration as a perfect opportunity to put his skills to the test while capturing memorable moments through his lens.

Meanwhile, a married couple, who wished to be known only as As and Adib, reached the venue with their children as early as 5 pm yesterday, hoping to get a better view this year after being late last year and having to watch the celebration from afar.

“Last year, we arrived late and ended up quite far from the main area. This time, we decided to come early to get a spot closer to the celebration and enjoy a better view,” said Adib.

For Ahmad Azri Onn, 55, who attended with his wife and three children aged between 10 and 15, spending the night at the venue turned the wait for the celebration into a fun ‘camping experience’ for the family.

Having arrived at about 5.30 pm yesterday, Ahmad Azri said his family was thrilled to get a good viewing spot, giving the children a chance to experience the National Day celebration firsthand during the school holidays.

“The weather was not a problem for us. The drizzle yesterday helped a bit with the heat, and the children were comfortable,” he said.

Dataran Putrajaya began filling up this morning as people gathered to witness the 69th National Day celebration, themed “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, which is scheduled to begin at 8 am.
