PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- Thousands of participants and members of the public began arriving at Dataran Putrajaya as early as 5 am today to witness the 69th National Day celebration, featuring a line-up of events and performances to mark the country's independence.
The celebration, themed Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati, is expected to draw about 80,000 visitors, with various performances and activities lined up to enliven the patriotic spirit of those attending in person as well as those watching the celebrations live on television.
The celebration will be graced by the presence of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, and attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Cabinet ministers.
It will begin with a military ceremony, followed by stage performances and a colourful parade reflecting the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI as a nation that prioritises the people's well-being and respects diversity.
The parade and march-past will involve 10,819 participants from 77 contingents, as well as 328 assets, 22 electric vehicles (EVs), 112 live assets, 22 marching bands and 11 decorated floats.
Among the highlights will be the debut appearance of the Johor Military Force (JMF), as well as the Ibrahim Class Boat maritime asset, personally designed by His Majesty, which will accompany the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency contingent during the march-past.
The 2026 National Day parade and march-past will feature segments comprising the nationhood component, well-being, public order, national security, air shows and special performances.
The event will conclude with the Rentak MADANI Paluan Tradisi performance, coordinated by the National Department for Culture and Arts and involving various agencies, educational institutions and local art practitioners.
Meanwhile, Communications Minister and chairman of the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) Main Committee Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil had advised visitors attending the celebration at Dataran Putrajaya to wear N95 face masks to protect themselves from the haze.
The measure is in line with advice issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH), particularly for those in high-risk groups.
The HKHM 2026 organisers have also provided N95 face masks to more than 10,000 participants at the National Day celebration as a precautionary measure.
