Malaysians Across Iraq Unite For Merdeka Through Photo Initiative

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- From Baghdad to Nasiriyah and Sulaimaniyah, Malaysians across Iraq are coming together in the spirit of Merdeka through a photo initiative celebrating their shared national identity and enduring connection to home.

The Malaysian Embassy in Baghdad has invited Malaysians working and residing across Iraq to share photographs taken at their respective locations as part of its National Day celebration.

The embassy said the initiative aims to unite Malaysians in different parts of Iraq and strengthen their connection to Malaysia despite being away from home.

“The initiative also reflects the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, particularly the values of care and compassion, respect, innovation and mutual cooperation, by encouraging Malaysians abroad to remain connected, support one another and celebrate their shared national identity,” it said in a statement. 

Participants are encouraged to submit photographs of themselves, their families, workplaces or local surroundings, preferably featuring the Jalur Gemilang or other elements reflecting the spirit of Merdeka.

The photographs will showcase the diverse presence of the Malaysian community, from Baghdad in central Iraq and Nasiriyah in the south to Sulaimaniyah in the Kurdistan Region, as well as their shared pride in being Malaysian.

“The initiative also reflects the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, particularly the values of care and compassion, respect, innovation and mutual cooperation, by encouraging Malaysians abroad to remain connected, support one another and celebrate their shared national identity,” the embassy said.

It said the initiative also reaffirms its commitment to engaging Malaysians in Iraq and celebrating Merdeka with them wherever they may be, while fostering a community that is united, caring, inclusive and resilient.
