KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The Association of Malaysian Media Clubs (GKMM) welcomes the government's decision to restore the basic quota of BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme from 200 litres to 300 litres per month starting Sept 1, which is considered to be a relief to the majority of media practitioners.
GKMM president Mohd Fauzi Ishak said the decision particularly provides relief to media practitioners working in the states, who previously faced difficulties and had to increase their monthly expenses to buy RON95.
"This expenditure is of course to cover the logistical costs of commuting to work, which also includes the needs to go to work and cover various programmes and events every day.
"The reinstatement of the BUDI RON95 quota as previously requested by GKMM, will certainly ensure that all media practitioners can continue to play their role in providing the best coverage in addition to delivering information quickly to all citizens," he said in a statement today.
He said GKMM also hopes that companies and all media agencies in the country will examine the need to introduce new incentives or certain allowances, especially for their respective media practitioners, in line with the increasing costs and expenses to complete their tasks at this time.
He said that travel or logistics costs are currently among the major expenses that a large number of media practitioners have to bear every month, especially those working in the states.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when delivering the Prime Minister's Address for National Day 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) today said the decision will allow more 16 million consumers continue to enjoy subsidised RON95.
On March 26, the government announced the adjustment of BUDI95 eligibility from 300 litres per month to 200 litres per month starting April 1, 2026 following the conflict in West Asia, with the price of subsidised RON95 remaining at RM1.99 per litre.
