29/08/2026 10:03 PM

SEREMBAN, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- A briefing will be held tomorrow with the families of Malaysians still unaccounted for following severe flash floods and landslides in Nepal’s Rasuwa district.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the briefing will involve Wisma Putra, the National Security Council and relevant agencies to provide an update on efforts to locate those reported missing.

He said Wisma Putra is ready to arrange for the families to travel to Nepal if necessary, adding that access to the disaster area remains difficult due to damaged infrastructure, including bridges that have been severed.

“Many people who were initially reported missing have since been contacted. The Chinese authorities have also told us that several people there have been reached, but their nationality has not yet been confirmed,” he told reporters after the Ziarah Kasih programme at Taman Kelab Tuanku, Mamba, here today.

Mohamad said the ministry’s operations room is operating round the clock to monitor developments involving Malaysians affected by the disaster, with Wisma Putra maintaining close communication with Nepal’s Foreign Ministry and relevant agencies for updates.

He said additional staff had been deployed to the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu to help handle the needs of Malaysians and their families who remain unaccounted for.
