PUTRAJAYA, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- Last year, the roar of a high-powered BMW R 1250 RT motorcycle accompanied Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri when he led the police detachment at the National Day parade; but this year, he will be leading the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) contingent to the sound of horse hooves.
The director of the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) will be riding a white horse named Al-Sakb to lead the 595-strong PDRM contingent comprising senior and junior police officers at the 69th National Day Parade at Dataran Putrajaya this Monday.
He said the Federal Reserve Unit’s Mounted Unit, comprising 20 officers and personnel and 20 horses, would head the contingent.
Mohd Yusri said the transition from leading a motorcycle detachment to the Mounted Unit offered a different experience, besides presenting a new challenge for him in his capacity as KDNKA director.
“Previously, when I was the director of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), I led the department’s team on a BMW R 1250 RT motorcycle.
“Now, as KDNKA director, I will lead the KDNKA contingent or detachment on horseback. It is quite different and presents a challenge for me,” he told Bernama after the 2026 National Day celebration’s full rehearsal here today.
Mohd Yusri, who previously headed JSPT and the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), said he had undergone more than a month of training to prepare for the parade.
He said the training was important to ensure the movements of the Mounted Unit and the entire contingent were orderly and in sync on the day of the celebration.
“I will ensure that everything runs smoothly and perfectly, thereby upholding the image of PDRM and KDNKA,” he said, adding that preparations for the KDNKA contingent were at an optimal level.
Mohd Yusri also called on the public to attend with their families on Aug 31 to enliven the celebration and embrace the spirit of independence.
“Alhamdulillah, preparations and training have gone well. We pray that the weather will improve and everyone will be able to attend and experience the National Day atmosphere with their families,” he said.
Apart from the Mounted Unit, KDNKA will also feature various elements, including the General Operations Force (GOF) and the Air Operations Force, to showcase the diversity of PDRM’s functions and operational capabilities.
Among the assets expected to draw attention are the 10 newly acquired All Terrain Tactical Assault E-Bikes (ATEB), high-performance and durable electric motorcycles supplied to the GOF for security and border patrol duties, high-risk special operations and conflict management.
PDRM’s capabilities from land to air will also be showcased through a flypast by an AW139 helicopter operated by the force.
PDRM contingent’s appearance at this year’s parade will also feature the skills of 16 K9 Unit dogs, elite force personnel and tactical electric motorcycle technology.
The combination of traditional elements, experience, operational capabilities and modern technology will come together under the banner ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’ as the Sang Saka Biru contingent passes the main stage.
