USIM Appoints Kelantan Pondok Scholar As Adjunct Professor

SEREMBAN, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) has appointed Kelantan pondok scholar Sheikh Wazir Che Awang Al-Makki as an adjunct professor (Industry) at its Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies (FPQS) for a two-year term.

USIM FPQS Assistant Registrar (Academic) Mohd Zaini Othman said Sheikh Wazir's appointment would help strengthen Islamic studies rooted in the turath (heritage) tradition by drawing on the knowledge, expertise and experience of religious scholars.

“Through this appointment, Sheikh Wazir will bring his expertise and experience to help strengthen the academic environment and advance knowledge at FPQS and across the university.

“During his term, his experience and expertise will be shared through a series of faculty visits, lectures, public talks and religious talks for students and university staff as part of relevant programmes and activities,” he said in a statement here today.

USIM deputy vice-chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Prof Dr Mushaddad Hasbullah, presented Sheikh Wazir with his letter of appointment, witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hassan at Kompleks Islam Putrajaya today.

Zulkifli said in the same statement that the appointment was part of efforts to empower and further strengthen turath institutions and pondok schools in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zaini said the appointment would enable USIM to explore new collaborations with pondok institutions and strengthen the Islamic education ecosystem by linking Islamic scholarship with the academic expertise of higher education institutions.
