KUCHING, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- The Federal Government has allocated RM30 million to upgrade the Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) airports in Long Banga and Ba’kelalan.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said RM15 million had been allocated for the upgrading works at each of the two STOLports.
“The allocation is to ensure that STOLports in rural areas are also upgraded with improved facilities in line with current needs.
“We also plan to extend the existing runways so that the airports can accommodate more passengers.
“At present, the Twin Otter aircraft operating these routes can only carry a limited number of passengers,” he told reporters after attending the National MADANI Taxi Renewal Programme for Sarawak here today.
