More Than 17,000 Children In Nepal Need Urgent Aid After Floods – UNICEF

GENEVA, Aug 28 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- More than 17,000 children are in need of urgent humanitarian aid following flooding in Nepal, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Thursday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

“At least 17,000 children have been impacted by the devastating flash floods that tore through Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts,” the statement read.

Children who survived the floods now face an increased risk of disease, malnutrition, violence and exploitation, UNICEF said.

A powerful torrent of water rushed into the Bhotekoshi River in mountainous Nepal on Wednesday. The flooding was caused by a glacier collapse and debris flow.

The death toll from the floods in Nepal has reached 389 and is expected to rise further as search operations continue, the UN warned.
