WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (Bernama-dpa) -- The US government will provide US$500,000 in disaster assistance to people affected by severe flash floods in Nepal, the State Department said on Wednesday, reported German news agency (dpa).
The aid will include emergency shelter, clean water and other relief supplies.
A disaster assistance adviser has also been sent to the region to support relief efforts, the department said.
"The United States extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the devastating flash floods in the Rasuwa district of Nepal," the State Department said.
At least 157 people have died in Nepal as a result of the flooding in the mountainous border region, while China reported at least three deaths.
Hundreds of people remain missing, including more than 400 travellers from Nepal and abroad as well as police officers and soldiers.
