KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Former national men’s hockey team head coach, Sarjit Singh died on Sunday. He was 63.
Sarjit died at the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Cheras, here at 10 pm.
The sad news was confirmed by Malaysian Hockey Hospital (MHC) via its official Facebook account.
The MHC also expressed its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Sarjit, who also played for Malaysia from 1982 until 1993.
“His dedication, service, and contributions to Malaysian hockey - both as a player and as a head coach - will always be remembered.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and loved ones. May they find strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” it said.
Sarjit, previously helmed Speedy Tigers from March 2024 until last March, apart from coaching the national junior team from 2004 until 2006.
As a player, Sarjit, had captained Malaysia at the 1982 Junior World Cup in Kuala Lumpur as well as leading the national team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Wake and funeral details were not available at the time of filing this report.
