Melaka Government Committed To Serving All Communities - Ab Rauf

23/08/2026 06:14 PM

ALOR GAJAH, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government does not discriminate based on background or limit its engagement to specific groups, ensuring that the welfare and needs of all communities continue to receive attention.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said this commitment was being demonstrated through the 14th series of the Chief Minister Sayang Rakyat tour in the Machap Jaya state constituency, which brought more than 15 forms of aid and initiatives directly to residents.

“This ‘on-the-ground’ approach reflects the commitment of the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) administration to translate its mandate into actions and tangible results that benefit the people.

“What matters more is not the number of aid programmes or the size of the allocations announced, but the extent to which every ringgit spent actually reaches the people,” he told reporters after the event at Felda Tun Ghafar Menggong here today.

Also present was State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, who is Machap Jaya assemblyman.

Earlier in his speech, Ab Rauf said the assistance distributed included a new house worth RM70,000 under the Melaka Rumahku initiative, as well as 26 types of housing assistance totalling RM649,000 for 25 families in the Machap Jaya constituency.

Contributions were also channelled to needy individuals, the Orang Asli community, educational institutions, places of worship, agencies and community organisations. In addition, 1,600 bags of rice were distributed free to Machap Jaya residents.

The programme also brought healthcare services closer to the community through free health screenings conducted in collaboration with the Melaka State Health Department and participating private clinics.

Ab Rauf said the state administration's practice of engaging directly with the people was not new, but had been a key approach since he was entrusted with leading Melaka.

He stressed that the state government should not simply wait for people to seek assistance, but must go to the ground to understand their needs better.

“We received our mandate from the people, we return to serve the people, and it is for the people that we drive all these efforts,” he said.
