Haze: Sarawakians Advised To Postpone Outdoor Activities - JPBNS

22/08/2026 02:00 PM

KUCHING, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The public has been advised to postpone activities or events, particularly those held outdoors and involving large crowds, to a more suitable date due to the hot weather and haze.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBNS) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that the move was a precautionary measure to reduce public exposure to unhealthy air quality.

“The current air quality situation continues to be monitored, with a focus on areas recording unhealthy readings.

“JPBNS, together with relevant agencies, will continue to monitor and coordinate measures based on the latest developments to ensure any risks to public safety and health are addressed appropriately,” he said in a statement today.

Based on the Hot Weather Update Report as of 8 am today, 11 locations recorded unhealthy readings (101-200), while six locations were at the moderate level (51-100) and one location recorded a good reading (0-50).

“The highest reading was recorded in Serian at 190, followed by Kuching and Lubok Antu at 181 each, Lundu (179), Samarahan (177), Sri Aman (174) and Sarikei (172),” he said.

As a result, several programmes, including the Sarawak Ku Sayang scheduled for Aug 28 to 30 in Mukah and the state-level 2026 National Day celebrations scheduled for Aug 30 to 31 in Kapit, have been postponed as a safety and public well-being measure.
